Admin edit (from Dave Mudgett)
This policy has been updated as of 01/30/2025. See the last post in this thread.
Please do not promote PayPal "Friends and Family" on this site. Besides being a bad idea when dealing with people you don't know (no recourse for fraud), it can get the forum's PayPal account in trouble. We were suspended from withdrawal access for 3 weeks recently on a different issue, and promoting "Friends and Family" payments is definitely against their rules. _________________ -πππ- (admin) - Robert P. This notice from b0b should be a βstickyβ on each βfor saleβ section. _________________ If you succeed in cheating someone, don't think that the person is a fool. It's just that the person trusted you far more than you deserved. |

I knew it was inadvisable, but not that it was an infringement.
Thanks for the heads up, b0b _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

PayPal just announced a new policy, effective at the end of July, business accounts will not be allowed to receive any F&F payments. _________________ Long-time guitar player, now wrestling with lap steel. |

Question, If we see an add that asks for PayPal F&F, should we: 1) Respond with a link to your new sticky, 2) Message an administrator, or 3) Do nothing and assume it will be taken care of by admin.?
Thanks,

I don't know if I got "taken" or not, but I sent $140.00 the "wrong way" and UPS says the package was never picked-up and the shipper, from this forum, says it was picked-up. The shipper has a pretty good name on this forum, so I don't know what to do. All I know is that from this point forward, no more F&F from me just to try and save a few dollars.
Update- UPS lost the package and the seller refunded my money. _________________ If you succeed in cheating someone, don't think that the person is a fool. It's just that the person trusted you far more than you deserved.

Never assume that a moderator will catch everything. I'd say #2. _________________ -πππ- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

Thanks Bob, I have never been comfortable using F nd F for a transaction even if I trust the person. If I was selling I would figure the PP fees in and price accordingly! Personally I am very happy to see this take effect. |

I'm updating this thread to ban the use of Paypal Friends and Family (F&F) on this forum outright. Our primary concern in making an outright ban is that F&F has been used by (probably non-member) criminal scammers, who hack into forum members' accounts, to defraud people. Once someone pays via F&F, they have no recourse, and this sets up a perfect scheme for a scammer.
Read these points carefully:
1. Advertising F&F has been banned for a few years now.
2. It is now also unacceptable to use F&F at all. If you want to use Paypal on this forum, it must be Paypal Goods and Services, and someone will have to pay the fee. We don't care who that is, but F&F is prohibited.
3. If it can be shown that you require F&F in a Marketplace transaction, you will be banned from the forum.
4. If you attempt to purchase something from someone on this forum and they ask for F&F payment, it is our position that you should
a. Assume the seller may be trying to scam you;
b. Withdraw from the transaction;
c. Copy/paste the correspondence with the seller into an email to admin@steelguitarforum.com and give us a link to the Marketplace thread involved.
We will close the thread, ban the user, and that user will have to explain the situation to us in order to be considered for reinstatement. If we reinstate someone and they repeat this mistake, they will be banned for good.
Sorry we have to be so hard-nosed, but we cannot tolerate what has been going on lately.
Just say no to Paypal Friends and Family on this forum. Or else. |
