I don't know what it is but, I wouldn't let it get too close to the other steels in your shop just in case it has something contagious.

The undercarriage looks a lot like the pre-micro MSA's

With a serial number on the end plate 10027. Was not just a one time dream. Looks like it had a rough life, May have been in a fire and rebuilt somewhere along the way. From all the black around to pedal rod pull area, Pitting in control plate
Strange pedal arrangement with 2 or 3 different length pedals.
If the guitar could talk may have wild stories to tell.

Based on those pics of an early MSA, I'm voting that this is an MSA with a refashioned neck and keyhead.

I'll go along with Lee and Dan, as it appears there's an old MSA in there somewhere! Laughing The serial number 10027 would seem to indicate a mid-to-late '60s MSA, and David Wright may be able to pin down an exact date of manufacture. MSA started in 1964, but the first MSA I remember seeing was a D10 on the Opry stage back in 1966. (I don't remember whose it was.) I never knew they'd made any 8-stringers, but that endplate seems to confirm that they made at least one! I think most of the "pro" Nashville pedal players switched away from 8-stringers between 1963 and 1966.
