Hey Gang,
I was thinking about swapping out my bridge inserts on my Dobro. I checked the Resophonic Outfitters website and discovered their new Shockwave inserts. Anyone using these? Advantages, disadvantages?

I changed out the ebony capped inserts on an early OMI Dobro with a bender on 3 strings. It looked like -maybe- two wound strings were grinding into the wood caps, so I went with the Shockwave inserts, thinking perhaps that would be a cure. Time will tell. Before putting on new strings I restrung the old ones, just to hear any difference, and I think there was a change. It didn't seem louder - there was just more of it, if that makes any sense. Probably worth a shot. I got the pre-slotted ones so it was real easy. Good luck.

Thank you kindly for your response. I'm hoping you can define "real easy". Any tips on removing the old inserts and ensuring a proper fit with the new ones? It's been a few years since I've done any work "under the hood" and that was done on an inexpensive import model.

Ian,
As I recall, it took a bit of gentle wiggling to remove the old inserts without danger of cracking one, but they were just friction fit. The new inserts were a bit fat, so I sanded them to a snug fit. Because they were pre-slotted the only other concern was making sure the third-to-forth string spacing was the same as the rest. Whole thing took an hour or less.
