Gold Tone Clip-On Mic Won't Stay Put

I have one of these Gold Tone ABS-D clip-on dynamic mic with preamp. No matter how tight I squeeze it onto the tailpiece, it comes off with no effort. If I have the dobro (Recording King Professional) on a guitar stand with a cord plugged in, as soon as I lift the guitar off the stand, the weight and movement of the cord pulls the mic off. Any ideas on how to get it to stay on? I talked already to a big shot at Gold Tone, I might have had better luck talking to my dog.

I wish I could afford a Fishman Nashville pickup and the seemingly "required $400 Jerry Douglas Aura pedal, but that is just not in the stars.

I've actually gone back to a mic on a stand for now. Big pain in the rump.

I'll post a pic later today if I can get it on the guitar. It can take a half hour or more to get it to stay on. Even then, just plugging the cord in will sometimes dislodge it.

Velcro? Not sure there is a flat spot on the tail piece where I can put the velcro.

I don't know if there is room under the tailpiece to run zip tie, but it's worth checking out.

Another bad thing is it picks up every little noise, like the strap moving around on the strap button.

I tried a zip tie, I had to hook two together, and just touching the mic popped it off. I have some 3M Dual Lock I tried, and although it's wobbly, it is holding. I might try pedalboard velcro which might work better.

I really like the Goldtone preamp that came with the mic. I have a low to high impedance matching transformer that I will try with my stand mic so I can use the preamp. The preamp has a boost switch to increase volume and add EQ when soloing.

Here it is mounted to the guitar with a cord.

I've used the condenser version for years and if I get it positioned right, it's rock solid.

However, I have a Goldtone 8 string tail piece laying on a Beard cover plate. There's a leather pad under the front of the tail piece. So what works for me may not work for you.

Look underneath at the two hooks. Are they both engaged?

Try mounting it back a bit on the tail piece. When mine is in the sweet spot, the string holes are about in the middle of the slot.

Mine grabs best when the treble side of the bracket is a bit further back than the bass side.

When you first put it on, make sure the thumb screw is backed out to flush on the bottom so it won't hang up the slider.

Make sure both hooks are engaged and then tighten the thumb screw. My tailpiece has some scratches from the screw which may be lifting the hooks against the underside of the tailpiece, helping to clamp. This may be where your problem lies.
