After over 3 years of trial and error I am thrilled to introduce a novel magnetic half-stop with an as yet unheard of combination of features such as good cross-brand compatibility.

Please visit https://magnistop.laughingpick.com/ for all infos.

Going by the demo videos, this unit sounds prohibitively acoustically loud and I suspect
the sound of its impact would show up in the signal via the guitars pickup as well.

Perhaps the camera that recorded the videos has some degree of 'auto level' but even
with that considered, the noise seems as though it would be excessive, particularly in
quiet performance/recording settings.

Comments, please . . .

The clunk is about as loud as when a pedal that is mashed quickly hits its stop. Both actions excite the strings on a microscopic level, whose vibrations disturb the magnetic field around the pickup. Fortunately, compared with the magnitude of string excitation when picked, the added noise part is neglectable. Also, since the hardness of the half-stop can be set from practically "zero" to "too hard", and with it, the volume of the clunk sound, you can decide how much "feel-stop feeling" you want to retain. It's sort of a trade-off. Personally, I am not concerned about the clunk. When I push the lever to the full stop, I am having two clunks instead of just one. You get used to it.

I think most of the clunk sound comes from the release of tension in the cross rod, with a small part coming from the armature hitting the ram again, after separation. Both are inextricably linked to the mechanism of action of the device. So, I doubt that anything can be done to lessen that noise while retaining the hardness set.

If you have more questions, let me know.

Just when you think there are no more ideas.

Thinking out of the box.

Just finished to install on my MSA millenium. It works very smooth and the micrometric screw allow to tune very precious the half stop. There’s a “click” when it’s engaged, but not so loud as I can’t listen it in my earphone.
