Lead line says it all. This -was- a pair of 70's ALTEC 421B speakers.
That's a dedicated bass driver with a very limited upper midrange and high end.

If these had been modified into ALTEC 414's (12") I would long have enjoyed them. I'm a guitarist, so a pair of 15's isn't what I really want.

I sat on them forever (hating them) and then took the plunge and paid Bill Hanuschak at Great Plains Audio to redo the motor and cone with parts for the ALTEC 414

Great Plains is the braintrust of a few of the original ALTEC designers who kept the tooling and whatever knowledge, gear and tools for making things like this when ALTEC closed shop decades ago. These are in new condition. One hasn't been been unboxed since being shipped back to me.
I put the first opened one into a Klipsch kp-301 ported cabinet (large) . Its response is smooth and effortless with a lower resonance, a smoother extended response, and can handle the power.

They need a new home.
