| I was thinking about the post about steel that wasn't a good fit, and I had that experience with the GFI I'd played from '04 to '09. I had some doubts about the GFI at first because I wasn't sure if the GFI could give me the sound I was looking for, but the more I played it, the more I loved it. Over time, I felt like it didn't really have the sound I was looking for, so in '09 while playing a show in Atlanta, I played the GFI onstage, and after I finished, I met David and Harry Jackson of the Jackson Steel Guitar Company, and they had some steels set up, and David asked me if I'd like to try one of the Jackson guitars out, so I said yes, so after I finished playing the Jackson Madison '63 that was set up, I told David Jackson that I believe a Jackson Steel was in my future, so I played the GFI until I moved to Pickens, SC in December of '09. In my mind, I think I kinda dreaded going back to GFI because I loved the Jackson so much. In 2010, I talked with David and Dawn Jackson about what my next steel would be-I'd first thought of the Jackson Blackjack, but then David and Harry built my Blackjack Custom-I tried it out first at the Jackson Steel Guitar Company, which is in Harry Jackson's garage. When I tried out the Blackjack Custom, there was something about it that really amazed me-sound, tone, playability, how it feels, so after trying out the Blackjack, both David and Harry Jackson asked me which guitar I like best, and I told them it's the Blackjack Custom. I'm proud to say that guitar has now been with me for fourteen years and it's still the most amazing pedal steel guitar I've ever played, and will always be my main pedal steel guitar |

The Blackjack has never gotten the publicity it deserves, great playing, great tone, great value!

I'm not sure, but I'm betting you can't buy one outa the box & not want something different. I started with a D-10 Professional Sho~Bud. My Steel buddy turned it into a Jimmy Day setup, before I got my hands on it. I liked it & played it for several years, But after playing an MSA, the Sho~Bud was sold. Reese made me a special PSG U-12 LDG style... I kept it for several years, but sold it in Seattle. One day, an ad with a D-10 Sierra showed up in the Buy & Sell & I went a got it.
I loved that PSG, but life went south & my life blew up. I have had 2 more Sierras & the one I have now, has lots of personally engineered upgrades... it's a dream to play, but all this picking & grinning, working & living ... I got old. I'd tell anyone to set down behind something you wanna buy & Play, cause you lose time & money swapping & buying & changing & wishing you had something different.
