That looks like a ‘54 or maybe late ‘53, near the end of production trapezoid model.
The “Dark” finished Fender steels switched to ash for both the last of the trapezoid models as well as the then new Stringmaster. (They are also ash with that same noticeably lighter brown.)
My ‘52 Custom is a much tighter grained wood, presumably walnut, and is more of a chocolate brown.
Later, mid 50s on, brown Stringmasters got darker, and when the finish chips and dings the wood underneath stands out a lot.
1954 Trapezoid models in blond are also ash, like they were before, but the finish is more pale than the previous blond models.
Something different was done for sure, you also notice this with Telecasters that got whiter around that time too. |

Picked up this very minty '51 Custom last year. It's a blonde and matches the one pictured on the 1950 Fender catalog. Pickups were rebuilt by Nick Fryer.

I love the idea of playing a triple neck, but I just don’t see it happening for me. I barely play the second neck on my D8 Stringmaster
On a side note, I’ve seen a Fender D6, but was there ever a T6? _________________ Santo Fan Club - from the island of Coney to the sands of Rockaway
