Effects chain

Hi guys…. I’m putting together a new rig and was looking for any thoughts or input on the order of
VP/preamp/effects etc.
I will be using a Radial JDI for my line out FOH when the gig calls for that which is most of the time.
I’ve narrowed my new gear down to just a few items.
Goodrich Omni VP… TC Furlong Sesh 400… UniversalAudio DelVerb pedal…. Sarno Earth Drive Mini… Peterson Tuner.
I could do a lot of experimenting with the chain but I’d rather get some input from some players. Thanks

I would put everything except the Verb/delay before the volume pedal. I would also experiment with the placement of the 400 pre amp in the chain.

In general I put time based effects after the volume pedal and gain based boxes before the volume pedal. It’s really a personal matter though.

In general I tend to put all effects pre-volume pedal but recently I added a Keeley Caverns Delay/Reverb for my digital setup and it sounded awful(distorted) until I put it after the volume pedal and then it was great. It all depends on how the device was engineered to start with. Since generally the effects loop is placed between the pre-amp and amp you are basically placing the effects in a "loop" when going from the guitar-vp-Sesh 400-effects-amp.

It appears that the Sesh does NOT have any kind of effects loop or whatever. In and Out, that's it.

- Put the tuner early in the chain, as close to the guitar as possible to give it a pure signal to work from.
If the tuner gets overdriven by the straight guitar signal, then never mind.
If you put the tuner before the volume pedal, you could silently tune in between songs.

- Put the reverb last.
In my mind you want to add reverb your distortion.
You don't want to add distortion to your reverb.
If you're sitting on the edge of the Grand Canyon, do you want to feed it a distorted signal and have it reverb back naturally to you?
Or do you want to feed the canyon a nice clean reverb, and have it feed a distorted signal back to you?

- Put the overdrive probably before the Sesh.
And put the OD before the reverb.

I was just having a conversation with someone else about this. The Omni has a separate tuner out, so there's no reason to have the tuner in-line. Earth Drive should definitely come before the volume pedal, I have it first thing out of the guitar. If placed after the VP, every change in VP position alters the input gain to the Earth Drive and changes its tone. Having the tuner downstream of the overdrive is a non-issue, just make sure the OD is off when you're tuning. I've never used a Sesh 400 so I don't know how sensitive the input is or how the VP affects it's tone. I believe it could go on either side of the VP but my inclination would be to have it downstream like an actual amp. I have used an Iridium, and that's where it ended up. Delay and reverb should always come after the volume pedal, usually the last thing in the chain so all tails are preserved. I hope you find something that works well for you.
