Ricky there had been a lot of History that has been made at the Broken Spoke since day 1! I bet you know all about it from back in the day. Have you ever played a gig at the Steiner Ranch Steakhouse at Lake Travis? When I rodeoed back in the 70’s the Steiners were great Rodeo Stock Contractors out of Austin. That Steakhouse has live bands now I hear.

Thanks

I'm playing The Little Darlin in south Austin on Sunday at 2:00. Its free and outdoors. Say hey if you drop by. It's a nice family type scene. The food is pretty good.

Yeah Joe; I knew the Steiner's very well; I taught the boys "Shane and Sid Steiner" gymnastics; and me and boys their Mom and Tommy and Bobby Steiner went to all their "Texas Rodeo" together(so I was always back-stable, since they owned the Rodeo..ha); I also taught Horseback Riding at the Crenshaw Summer camp up north Anderson Mill where the Gym was; when my old Coach Bill was still alive.

Ricky you know the best there ever was at running a pro rodeo. I rodeoed (Bulls and Barebacks) from 1972 to 1984. I entered all of Tommy’s and Bobby’s rodeos as they had the rankest Bulls in the World. Bobby was a World Champion in 1973. Sid was a World Champion in the 90’s. Rocker (Sid’s Son) is fixing to win the World this year in Vegas at the NFR. They are great people and very serious about training, gymnastics, weight room, water skiing, rodeo, etc. Was your coach Billy Tom Steiner? He was Bobby’s older brother. Great to know you Ricky! I will tell Bobby I read about you all the time on the Steel Guitar Forum. He will definately tell me some stories. Great People!

Wow Joe; you certainly been around the block> deep respect Bro(I probably saw you ride live as that was '80';'81;'82;'83 I was going to all the Texas rodeo's with the Steiner's)
The coach I was talking about was Bill Crenshaw; he was my Gymnastics Coach growing up. When I got back from College; he opened a Gym and Summer camp and I worked with him; since I was the kid that always helped him bringing up his horses.
Anyway; I was "Coach Rick"(bledsoe) is what the boys and Steiner's remember me. Shane Steiner now goes by "Tommy Shane" and he even had some country music singer deals at one time. I did try to keep up with them; but highly difficult as we all were runnin' all over the place. My Great nephew Colton Wilson from this ranch I live at; became the High School Steer Wrestling state champ last year and is now on Pro-Curcuit and kickin butt(I take care of his Bull-Doggin Cuttin horses).
The Steiner's are/were indeed Great Folks; great to hear Sid has a boy taking his path..that is amazing.
I taught them boys back when they were 7;8;9 years old-ish...yeeehaaa...
Here's pic of "Rocky Top Ranch"(yes there's a rodeo arena back behind that back Horse Barn) I live at:

Beautiful Hill Country(rolling Hills) Ranch Ricky! Yes I was at every Steiner Rodeo back then. I officially retired in 1984. Too many injuries. But we had a big run up to that year when it ended. The old saying goes we never quit rodeoing, rodeo quits us, which is true with every contestant. I was 27 when my time ended. I will be on the watch for Colton and hope he continues to compete and mature in the best professional sport out there today (in my opinion). Damn it Ricky rodeo pays so much money to these guys now that it’s unbelievable what they can stash away. Ricky a F-3 Tornado hit me while in my pickup a Year ago last March(2023). It flipped my F250 3 times rolling it to my left. Beat me almost to unconscious status. I got out and walked to the Ambulance. I thought I was ok. Sored up pretty good, been sored up all my adult life. (No big deal). My shoulder rotater is real confined, can’t tuck in my shirt behind my back using my left arm. Anyway they wanted to do a shoulder replacement for about 6 months since my injury. I asked for a second opinion to send my mri and catscan to Dr. Tandy Freeman (PRCA orthopedic surgeon) I trust his advice over anybody’s.(he is the best in the USA at fixing major problems). Anyway Dr. Tandy called me and said my shoulder was ok! Torn Labrum but it was healing back. Then he said I am more worried about your broken neck!!!What??? He advised me to get to the NeuroScience surgery team in Okc and get it fixed soon as possible. So I am going in the week of Nov. 1 to get 2 vertebrae replaced with synthetic ones to match and a plate and 2 screws to put me back together. Life is Great!! I will have 12 weeks of recovery to practice my learning on the Steel Guitar so its not all bad. Ricky keep Colton motivated and going down the road!

Wow; joe you pretty much detailed my life/injury Stories; except mine came from Gymnastics and Stunts and Motocross. I'm also a physical Therapist and YES YES YES; Always Trust Ortho's and nobody else. Circulation is the key to life bro...take 1000 mg of Turmeric every Day...it changed the Inflammation life of my Body injuries and Ice any and every joint or spine/discs that have any pain and I hope the disc procedure goes well; he'll get those disc's moving again and that right there will reduce inflammation and all the pressures that puts on ligs and tendons and nerves. More power to ya. Oh I also suffered Traumatic Brain Injury on my LAST Crash in 2015; I have healed a long ways but will always suffer some results of.
Oh here a stunt I did on the edge of the North Rim Grand Canyon and below that; my last ride before I crashed> God bless America.

Ricky
We all do things throughout our lives that most people do not comprehend. You were definately a gym rat by what I see! Doing that handstand on the rim of the “Grand Canyon” tops the cake! You may be the most dangerous living human in Texas! I thought Bull riders were, but your athletic skills definately out do that. I know one thing you could have been a World Champion Bull Rider if you would have chosen that as a full time endeavor.

Well, that handstand was 42 years ago and that last ride on my dirt bike after Racing for Yamaha and Honda throughout my life that picture was taken 10 years ago when I was 53 so since 53 years old I haven't done anything dangerous sense.
My daughter told me after my crash: "Daddy I don't want you flying on the motorcycle anymore"; and she's the boss, so I just play steel guitar, feed horses, work on steel guitars and spend time with my daughter when I can. that's the rest of my life.

Well Rocky Top Ranch has been a family ranch for 187 years many many family members have lived there I inherited my part when my dad passed away 3 years ago but they then again we all own all 500 Acres many brother-in-laws have been bringing it up Memaw's and Papa's that very back 130 where I'm at my brother-in-law is the one that built all that Rodeo stuff so that my nephew his son can Rodeo since he was a kid that's only one ranch house there's five Ranch houses on the whole 500 acres in all different sections of this beautiful Ranch it is absolutely incredible I get teary eyed every time I pull in the front gate. I moved one of my sisters into that ranch house that's why I lived there with her I'm the caretaker of every family member and she came down with Parkinson's so I lived there with her and take care of her as she progresses but she's only progressed just still shaking on one side because I make her go to the Y and work out everyday yes I'm a bulldog and coach for sure whether it's an animal or human being they will work out like I said circulation is the key to life.
