I have a Carter S10 from 2010. The metal strips on the front apron are coming loose. I'd like to take them off and clean and reglue them but it appears that I would have to remove the end caps to get the strips off. Is there any other way to reglue them. I thought of taping off the bottom half and wicking some CA glue in there. Any other suggestions?

I've never had much success with re-gluing those strips without pulling them off. Trying to work glue in the cracks is messy and mostly ineffective.

If it's me, I'd pull the left endplate off. Should be really easy job. Then you can work the strip loose and out of the right endplate. It should pull out with a little effort. Just don't bend it.

I use contact cement, the kind for laminate, on both the strip and the apron after clean up. You can buy a small bottle of it. I think DAP is the product.

Then you won't ever have to worry about it again.

That's my suggestion looking back at my experiences.

It's a little bit time consuming but should be a pretty easy job.

I’ve used Titebond 3 on two Carters with that issue. Titebond (original) should work and clean up easier. (Water soluble). Defiantly easier to work with than CA, since it doesn’t dry as quickly and doesn’t require a debonder for clean up.

Thanks Gavin, Would you take the strip off or just work it in between it and the body and clamp it with painters tape.

I’d just leave it on, you don’t need to get glue under the whole thing, just get the bulk of it. And yes, painters tape and clamps will do the trick. Tape will do most of the work for you, but I’d also clamp it.
