Kind of an offbeat subject I know but ...
I read recently somewhere that Charlie Pride's "In Person" live album is the live album to hear PSG at it's best (i.e., behind a singer) and after a quick listen, I have to agree. Lloyd Green is extremely tasteful throughout.
But what others are there? I know these:
- Buck Owens - Japan & Carnegie (Brumley)
- Waylon Jennings - Waylon Live (Mooney)
Any other recommendations? I am not looking for virtuoso displays, just great music with a PSG singing tastefully in accompaniment. _________________ \paul

Give praise to the Lord with the harp, chant unto Him with the ten-stringed psaltery. Sing unto Him a new song, chant well unto Him with jubilation. For the word of the Lord is true, and all His works are in faithfulness. The Lord loveth mercy and judgement; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.

Paul, I’ll modestly offer-up Tracy Byrd Live at Billy Bob’s Texas.
Note: We had some issues with my raw feed the night of the show. Subsequently, it was a choice of re-recording my tracks or repairing the originals. In the interest of time we attempted to edit the tones on the originals. Despite the issues there’s some pretty good steel spots in it. I’m posting the picture of the CD/DVD/LP covers. Also, I’ve noticed that there are YouTube tracks of it.

Thank you all so much. My next post will be how to manage time to listen to all these albums! I have found many on Spotify and my playlist is growing (currently >300 songs!) No doubt I will find the rest on YT.
What is great about this is that there are names of artists I have never heard of and I like to listen to "new" stuff.
Good to see Dale Watson was suggested. Dale comes to a club near my home once a year and it's a rare opportunity to see a good PSG player, Don Pawlak, up close. Sarah Jory has been a couple of times to and is definitely one not to miss!
Thanks again. This is the only way to learn how to play this thing! _________________ \paul

There are a couple of fabulous live DVDs with Albert Lee and Hogan's Heroes, with Gerry Hogan on steel. Live in Paris is the best of them all.
Also, any DVD by Asleep at the Wheel, mostly non-pedal but masterly played by Cindy Cashdollar, Joe Ely and a few others.
Another priceless DVD: Jumpon' time with The Time Jumpers, John Hughey at his very best. Plus you get to hear Dawn Sears sing. |
