For me, some bands just 'have it' from the first time you hear them.

That pretty much says it. Considering all the great musicians there are on this Earth, there really aren’t too dang many great bands, as such. I think the quality of the writing, and the personal and professional chemistry among the band members has everything to do with that. DRB wasn’t just born lucky.

Thanks Ron. I was so fortunate to be recording and touring during the same time as DRB and just so many great touring bands just everywhere and at every venue we played. Dugmore asked me if he should go to Nashville..that's such a laugh now. He said his main producer was going there from L.A. I told him, of course, that he'd be so busy his head would spin. Literally most of the great players in history were active at that time and I was in 7th heaven. I think the only real downer my whole touring career was while doing a whole years tour with Merle Haggard, Norm Hamlett's wife passed away and he left the tour for a short while. Tough stuff to handle. On the brighter, funnier, side on the east coast somewhere Garth was opening for us and decided to do American Pie for an encore. The production mgr., artist mgr., stage mgr., all managers(lol) were having near fist fights arguing who was going to 'pull the plug'. Allen Jackson in a really considerate move told them he'd take the 'hit' in his performing time...what a great guy. Remember, all 3 opening artists on that show were just making their way into country music. To cut 20 minutes off your show at that critical time in your career is a huge move. Bless him! Turned out just fine for him, really gracious. I'd write a book...if I could write lol!

Thanks Steve..Working with James Stroud and Mark Wright(1st album only w/Mark) was an eye opener for me. Their method seemed to be 'sounds great-cut it in half, now simplify it, ok now just not so busy-perfect! Boy, you sure play in tune!' After recording in Houston for years I was more used to contributing a lot more to a session than 15 or 20 minutes to come up with a part or parts. I learned for that time they wanted you to just play something and then they would tell you what to play and you did it...they were all about the time spent it seemed and not the creativity and style. Well, back then they were really pumpin' them out fast.

Jeff, just so that you know, your music stands the test of time, my son and nephews in their mid to late 20’s love that early era of Clint and everyone else at that time. We also still listen to it frequently. Good music will last forever!
