Just don't hear enough from Gary, but always touched by his great take on things when I do run across him playing.

I was just talking about Gary with a friend of mine. Anyone know how he is doing? We would really like to know. Gary is such a nice person and an excellent player.

I actually joined the forum yesterday in hopes of finding out. Gary built my carp steel and gave me a brief intro lessons as a kid. Suddenly in my thoughts again and I hope he’s doing well.

I spoke with him a couple of months ago, and he was having some vision issues that he's working through, otherwise doing well. I haven't heard any updates, but I'm hoping he got all that sorted out.

I first met Carp when I was living in Fort Worth and working at a music store. He was a fairly regular customer, and we became friends. I had just started messing around with a little MSA Sidekick we had taken on trade, and he came in one day and stood there for a couple of mins and watched me hack. At the time I was pretty much mesmerized by the A pedal, and that was pretty much my 'repertoire'. So he says "Hey, try mashing the A and B pedal together.".. LOL.. That tip rocked my world. Smile I was that clueless.

He's one of those guys that just knocks you out every time he plays. I used to play guitar behind him from time to time, and I'd get so focused on trying to figure out what he was doing I'd just blow the guitar parts. What a great guy..

Great job in the style of John Hughey with some tasteful additional licks thrown in. Very nice playing.

I’ve been around Carp a couple of times in the past year. Seems like he doing pretty good & still playing great. He’s on my good friend Jerry Webbs latest album.

He was great playing with the Insiders, I think it was his favorite band. They played with Frenchie Burke once and after the first set he came over and said he played so hard with Frenchie he didn't know he could play anymore that night.

Beautiful playing by Gary Carpenter! This man has the touch, great tone and perfect pitch. Last year I posted a videoclip on Youtube demonstrating an old Dekley steel guitar that I restored. At the end (2:04) I played the intro and solo of "Look At Us" as a tribute to John Hughey who was one of my biggest influences why I started playing this instrument: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGlWd7kv7U0

Spoke with Gary a few days ago. He has been dealing with some health issues & said he’d been kinda idle with his steelin but should be thru that soon & hopefully back to pickin.
