This is an arrangement of Claire de Lune that I’ve been working on and am still working on—it’s 50% complete. One of my favorites of my arrangements so far.

Beautiful job Mike. I have loved that piece of music since I was a teenager in the 60's.

Nice! I’m tempted to tinker with this tune in the future.

I appreciate the comments and thanks for taking the time to listen.

I’m in the process of making of arrangements of classics in contemporary (well, maybe 20th century) styles. The name of it is Nosteelgia—I am very much into wordplay as much as I am into musical form play. Anything goes with wordplay, and I feel the same with the music. Arranging classics by manipulating form, reharmonizing, or cutting out sections is all part of the game, especially if it will benefit the final presentation. I’ve found that even shorter pieces from the classical canon and ragtime go on just a little too long. Five minutes these days is a big ask for a listener’s attention.

My goal is to record all these arrangement with a quartet of guitar, bass, drums and steel, just like on this demo of Claire de Lune. I’ve got some really great choices made for material. 2025 or bust, baby!
