This is just a little bit of mind-numbing trivia for the Emmons push-pull lovers.

When Emmons was selling and turning out a lot of push-pulls it would save a little production time by pre-loading bellcranks on a batch of crossbars. Extra bellcranks were often added then to accommodate whatever copedant might be called for later during the final sssembly and setup. Those extras were often just left on the steel’s crossbars. THAT’S why you might see unused bellcranks on push-pulls.

It’s pretty rare to find a push-pull with those now because players and service guys would often remove those for use in another steel or to add a KL change. But every now and then a “Closet” push-pull shows up with that feature. I once had a D10 with 12 extras. Who could have known back then those original bellcranks would become so desirable?

I had no idea!

It wouldn't happen now, I fear. Sad

My '73 rosewood 'mica fatback D-10 had many extra bellcranks (don't remember exactly how many, but at least a half-dozen). When I had Clem Schmitz go over it for it's 100,000 mile check-up some years ago, I told him to take 'em if he wanted 'em (and he did).

I too have seen extra bellcranks on Emmons psgs in past years.

I used to own a no-name copy of a Permanent D10 that had extra cranks welded to the crossbars.
They were a bit of a puzzle but I figured they were for some alternative copedant
