Jim P, or anyone that actually knows...what type of foam Sierra used in these cases?....and a source for it? It's the block stuff I'm interested in that the guitar sits on.

This is exactly what I want.

There are dozens of types of foam. I need something pretty firm that is easy to carve to fit the shape of the guitar etc. The soft stuff is too flimsy and hard to shape even with a turkey knife.

I'm looking at a huge selection in the Foam Factory site.
I'm guessing closed cell some type but I'm not seeing anything for sure that's exactly like this?

Thanks for the help.

ELE Exactly like ester is a somewhat non disintegrating foam, what pro case companies use.

Electric Kitchen knife = Butter. Careful they cut fingers too.

Thanks George. Still checking it out.

Quoting from the DIY cases website, ELE is fine for case lining but not recommended for the bottom of a case which handles all the weight. So that's the type of stuff I need like in the photo.

JIC it might help someone else looking for this high density foam for case padding etc, I found the foam type is XLPE which means cross linked polyethylene.

The small 12 x 24 piece I got was 4 lb. density, but you can buy it in 2,4,6 lb. etc. This one has a deflection of 14 psi but it varies with specific type and weight.

Very firm, smooth, closed cell stuff and appears just like the stuff in the case photo I posted. Dense enough to cut easily without dragging on a box knife etc. and doesn't fall apart and make a mess when working it.

Maybe too stiff for seat cushions, but great for padding to support and protect heavy instruments and gear. FWIW.

Good to know Larry. I think I'm good for now though. I bet you have used the local resource for your motorized "toys" though? Best wishes and good cheer. 🛻🏍️

Something else I have discovered for padding small areas is pool noodles. Inexpensive and available in various 2, 3 and 4" widths at most big box hdwe. stores.

I cut it to the size I need with a bandsaw and spray glue fabric to it. It's firm and seems to be pretty durable.

Hi Arty. It depends on the case and the space you need to fill. I've forgotten the dims for the Wheel EZZ case....whether it's 2 or 3 in where the guitar cabinet sits.

I use 1" padding on the very bottom but the guitar sits on the side padding and not the bottom.

XLPE is available in heights from 1 in. to 4 1/2 in. Weights from 2 lb. to 8 lb. density.

Depends where you buy it, but sources such as USA Foam or Foam Factory sell it in whole sheets, 1/2 and 1/3 sheets reasonably.

If you need something not quite as dense but with good qualities, PE foam is less expensive.
