Hi fellow players,

I am expanding my research of pedal steel players. Being a 40-year-old musician I was not as exposed to some of the pedal steel greats music as much as some of the older members on this site and I feel it important and great I expand my knowledge of players unique contributions to the pedal steel craft outside the most well know players such as Lloyd Gree, Buddy Emmons and Paul Franklin..

What I ask is fellow members add a line or sentence next to each of the players (below) that outlines what you 'personally' feel each of the players have contributed to the instrument and possible songs they are renowned for which display their unique sounds and approaches to the instrument. If you don't want to add a note to a player in the list that's perfectly fine also.

I feel it's important us younger players learn more about as many players of this wonderful instrument's history as we can, and I value all your input. Feel free to copy and paste the list to your reply and fill in the spaces provided.

Players/Artists:

Don Helms

Curly Chalker

Shot Jackson

Hal Rugg

Zane Beck

Buddy Charleton

Tom Morrell

JayDee Maness

Tom Bradshaw

Roy Ayres

Bobbe Seymour

Rusty Young

Tommy White

Sonny Garnish

I really appreciate those who contribute to this post. Living in Australia unlike the USA the community of players and shared information for pedal steel is very small.

You might check out some of the citations in the SGHOF for their personal contributions.

If you want a complete list and are concerned with great ability, a totally unique approach, unique tone, and a discography that is unmatched , look up "Sneaky Pete" Klienow.. NO list of great steel players is complete without him on it...

Mike Johnson also needs to be on that list. Look at the many clips from Larry's Diner on you tube.
