Howdy. I had to change the 4th string recently (twice in a month actually) and i really had to crank in the tuning rod/nut to get the pedal/string in tune. So now the tuning peg is recessed way in there and the changer hits the cabinet. Any idea as to what i need to do to get the tuning peg back to its regular position and stop the changer from hitting the cabinet?

Thanks!

The changer is not the only variable in a string's tuning. The travel of the pullers that pull the rods has stops that can be felt in the pedals and knee levers. I would refer to these pictures on the GFI web. Take a look at your own guitar's underside. You do not need a dedicated work table to take a look. Put a couple of bath towels down and study it.

You're overtuned. At the top of this section, there is a sticky post about overtuning. Read it.

Did you put on a different gauge string? If you replace with the same gauge, barring any sudden mechanical problems, there should not be any problems. That string is normally a .014 string.

I second Richard Sinkler's post. About string gauge and over tuning.

Did you try to adjust the D# lower?

Turn the guitar over and check the Lower Return Spring on the 4th string. If the Lower Return Spring came unhooked, During the string change. Could be causing the problem, On the E to F raise.

Good Luck finding the cause and a cure, Happy Steelin.
