Hey ya'll,
Wondering which would sound better on my SKH. George L e-66 or
original chrome wrap Bill Lawrence 705.
Thx for your thoughts!

I’ve used both as well as original single coils on different SKH models. To my astonishment I found the E-66 had a better tone. Just something magical aligned as I’ve never been a fan of the E-66. The 705 was great but too sensitive for my style of playing. It picked up every flaw (which are many) and amplified it. But it was beyond that. The tone was just superb and really gave that early Emmons PP tone comparative. Your mileage may vary. 🙂 |

Thx David! I hope you're doing well!
My SKH has the George L in it now, but I did acquire an original 705 & it has me wondering because of things I've read about it. It's ok now, but to me sounds kinda vanilla compared to my PP. I know I cant get a PP tone but thinkin maybe the 705 will help some! Actually, I have the chrome wrap and a newer wrap one. They both read about the same on the meter.
Decisions, decisions!🥴😁
Thx for your input!

My SKH Emmons came with E66 pickups and I never thought it sounded that great . I put in some Emmons single coil tapped pickups and it sounded way , way better . Especially in the tapped 9k ohm position. |

Thx J,
I had put 2 single coils in it but they weren't tapped. Helped a little, but back to the single coil hum.
Still trying.
Thx, Pat |

I have two SKHs. My practice rig is lacquer and has the original single coil pickups. In my practice room it sounds great, but I do get some hum.
On my gig SKH (black mica), I have Telonics pickups and I absolutely love them. Zero hum, and they cut through very well. I have tried various pickups, including Lawrence X16, George L, and others over the years, but these are my favorites. I got some good used ones on the forum- they are pricey new.
I wanted to try an alumitone, but I couldn't get it to fit in the Emmons. _________________ "You call that thing a guitar?" |

Thx Lynn,
I'll keep an eye out for a pair of those!
BTW, which ones, X10's or 409's?
Thx |

I think mine are 409s.
I have quite spotty hearing and I have tried various combinations of pickups and amps/speakers. So, my experience may be unique to me- but I really like these pickups. _________________ "You call that thing a guitar?" |

Pat..I installed a Telonics '409' in my SKH as well, vast tonal improvement over the Emmons dual coil that was in it when purchased. |
