I have a Sehy square neck resonator. I bought it from Jerry Overstreet, and it's a really great guitar...even in my hands, haha. If you read this, Jerry, I love this guitar, dearly. It means a lot to me.
I want to get a new cone, a good setup and have a fishman pickup installed. It already has the correct spider for ease of installation.
I also don't want to ship it anywhere. So, my thought was to take it out to Beard, but I don't know if they do "appointment" work. That way I could drop it off and go hang out in D.C with my wife and pick it the next day, on the way home. I need to call them, probably.
Another thought is, I wonder if there's a shop in Indiana or Kentucky that could do an equivalent setup to Beard.
Does anyone know of anyplace they would trust with that work? _________________ RICK ABBOTT

Beard does do "by appointment" but the backlog, last I checked" was several months out. You get on the list and wait for the call.
Bobby Wright in NC has an excellent reputation but obviously not close to you.

Glad you are enjoying that Sehy Rick. You make it sound great. You got a keeper there. I miss it a lot, but sometimes things change. Can't keep 'em all.
Exceptional and beautiful axe. I bet with new parts and a new setup, this will be an even bigger monster of a reso.
Too bad we lost Frank Harlow around Dayton Ohio and then there was Ivan Guernsey around Henryville IN.
I'm not in the reso circles, but I don't know of anyone else in the immediate region. Good luck. |

I think Byrl Murdock (Byrl Guitars) is located in Indiana.

Seems like Jamie (JC Dobro) over at the ResoHangout has had him do some work on a couple of his guitars, including Fishman pup install.
Here is the post about having Byrl do the work

Byrl has a good reputation as a top reso builder. I guess if he's good enough for Rob Ickes, that'a a pretty good endorsement.
Didn't realize he was in Indiana. Looks like a little northwest of Indy in Lafayette. |

I'll look into Byrl. He's about an hour from me.
I really appreciate the info. If anyone knows of anyone else, please add them. Thanks, guys.
It actually kind of blows my mind that he could be this close to me and I didn't know. I've never even heard a rumor of some great dobro guy in Lafayette.
Thanks again. _________________ RICK ABBOTT

If you can get Byrl Murdock to work on your guitar, you'll be getting a true professional upgrade. He makes some nice instruments. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

Bob Sehy made really great resos at a reasonable price. I visited him several times as we're local...he made a 7 string for me that I love.....he no longer builds resos but works on banjos, uilleann pipes, and builds puppets..... |
