I’ve recently bought an MSA uni with 8 pedals 5 knees the pedal 4 lowers my 7 th string from F# down to E! Anyone know what this is for.?

Hi Alan
Some C6 players like to lower 5th string G to F, so it's analogous with that. Not something I've ever bothered with - you might want to use it for something else.
It would be interesting to know the full setup if you feel so inclined...

well, it lowers F# to E.
Might make more sense if we knew the rest of your set up/copedent.
Every guitar is different and uni's often tend to be personalized in what the pedals and levers do.
Presuming your tuning is E9/B6 ( there are many universal tunings ), a common change is to have F# lower a half to E# (F) akin to Pedal 5 on C6.
It makes a dominamt C# chord. You might have it somewhere else though. Usually low B goes up to C# on string 12 with that E# on 7.
Share your copedent and it can be worked out.
Lowering F# to E would have its uses though.....  |

Yes- I think that's colloquially known as the Maurice pedal but I could be wrong -
At any rate its a nice change. I think forrumite Jon Light has that F# to E on string 7 if I recall from previous discussions-maybe he'll chime in here. |

Ok basically it's a standard Newman set with Emmons ABC. 5678 are the standard C6 pedals levers are Es raise and lower on the right knee vertical lower str. 5 left left lowers 2 and raises 9. Left right raises Str 1. 2. And lowers 6. I'll do a chart later. Thanks for the interest. I am thinking of putting a Franklin 4 in but would need two rods and two bell cranks.

I drop my G#(s) to G on my Universal - minor 3rd.
Seems like it should be real useful. However, I don't use it much since there are so many ways to get a minor. |

The Sacred Steel Tuning has two E strings. One right after the other. Bob put up a page about this tuning. Its used by Chuck Campbell and Robert Randolph.
