I got this yesterday. I have seen over the years problems with clip on tuners. They don't open wide enough, aren't adjustable enough, hard to read etc. I think this company fixed all the complaints with this tuner.

Looks like a good find, Bill. How wide does the clamp open?

Thanks,
David

That doesn't seem any wider than the Snarks (not to be snarky about it!).

David it's OK to get snarky. I measured my snark and it looks like it opens about a 1/4" more! However the rest of this tuner is really sweet. The display, all the angles you can get with it, etc.

Bill - Is the display actually good in sunlight outside? That could make it worth the purchase, for me, at least.

Well Snarky Becker......(I like that name, it sounds like a steel player's name from the 40's) I took the tuner outside in the bright morning sun. While it is visible it's nowhere near as good as inside. It also had to be held just right so there was no glare on the screen......so I would say, it was a disappointment to me, and most likely you if you bought one..... Crying or Very sad

Thanks Bill. The clip on my old tuner broke Thursday night at a gig and I've just ordered a couple of these.

Thanks (I think) for the new moniker, Bill. I doubt it will ever cross my lips, however Very Happy .

And thanks for checking the tuner in sunlight. To be able to see it at all in those conditions is an improvement of pretty much all of the tuners I've tried. I guess it's just basements for me from now on....

Clip on tuners work great on my acoustic.

If you need a wider clip, is suggest trying a violin tuner: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/NSMicroViolin--daddario-pw-ct-14-ns-micro-violin-tuner

I've never tried one on a steel, mind you. As a banjo player, I've seen them used by Fiddling friends and the screen shows about the same as other tuners in the sun. As in, a bit of shade is required.

You could try one of these Pitch Jacks, from Korg: https://www.korg.com/us/products/tuners/pitchjack/

Or you could carry a small tuner with 1/4" in/out jports. And batteries.

My favorite clip-on tuner is the Peterson Stroboclip...

...but since one can purchase three or four (or more) Fishman FT2s...

...for the price of a Peterson, I have several stashed around the house and in guitar cases. I only have one instrument with a headstock too thick to accept the clips (a Fender Studio Deluxe), but can obtain decent results from clipping to a tuner button or a control knob. I've yet to find a clip-on tuner with a display bright enough to use in direct sunlight, which is basically a non-issue to me, since I rarely if ever play outdoors during daylight hours.

I just ordered one yesterday. With $6 in Amazon credits and their discounted Prime Day price, I paid $8 for it. I don't expect it to be nearly as good as my Peterson clip-on, but it'll be good to have an extra floating around.

I use the D'Addario NS Micro Violin Tuner mentioned by Lloyd Graves on my lap steel with a 1.5 inch thickness. It works quite well.

Ironically, our young fiddle player doesn't own a tuner. She has perfect pitch. It's spooky!
