Pat, here's what AR Duchossoir's Gibson Electric Steel Guitars 1935 - 1967 has to say about your friend's guitar. It's a Gibson CG-520. 330 were shipped between 1956 and 1966. The serial number may reveal its year of production. There were minimal (if any) changes from year to year. It featured a patented construction with each keyhead, fretboard, pickup, and bridge mounted on a steel rectangular tube, and a cabinet of oak panels mounted to a mahogany cross-section for mounting the legs. Both necks are 24-3/4" scale, and feature three-octave fretboards. They sport the unique Seth Lover-designed 4-8-4 pickup with non-adjustable Alnico magnet slugs for polepieces. They feature both an audio cut-out button and a doo-wah button. Hope this helps. |

Wow, thx Jack!
That's a whole lotta info and helps a lot. Any idea what tuning the necks are? My GUESS is C6 & A6 but that's just my "man on the street" guess. I was thinkin' also maybe an early E9 tuning.
Anyway, I really appreciate that info! Guitar histories are always amazing. I know that will help my buddy's friend!
Thx again, Pat |
