Just been playing “killing me softly” by Lloyd Green and I was wondering if anybody has any idea what effects are on that song on his STEEL… It’s kind of a combination flange, echo, reverb thing, but I really like it. Anybody? _________________ Jory Simmons |

Love Lloyd Green!
I'm 95% sure it's double-tracked in that section in the middle of the song where it sounds like he has a modulation effect going. He's very good at recording the same part twice, but a few of the bar slides are slightly different between the two takes -- and that's what gives it away as a double-tracked part versus a chorus or flange effect. And then there's a ton of reverb, of course. |

Tucker’s right, it’s multitracked. Double the unison on the second verse and split into harmony for the the melody of the chorus. Tone and soul! He’s still got it today too!
The thickest, richest chorus/modulation to my ears is the double tracked instrument. I haven’t found a pedal, except maybe that early first Boss CE-1 with the slow speed mod, that can replicate that lush 70’s flange like that. The stompboxes are usually too wet and exaggerated usually. |
