I am just in shock. John was a dear friend and such a talent. I did not see this one coming at all.
RIP my dear friend |
The videos after he got your amp (and reverb tank!)are hilarious. Shameless promotion with the Stannard slant. |

John was an awesome player. I remember watching him play with David Hartley on the youtube videos. Such a GREAT TALENT. A lot of good ones have gone lateky. I wish I knew why. Maybe it is not me to ask. My prayers go out John's family and David and his family. RIP BIG JOHN! |

Rob's comment has me wondering. He's right. I had a good friend who I was told had died. I felt bad and shed a few tears. Guess who called me that night? My old "dead" friend which I now call Lazarus. I find it funny that Dave Hartley has not posted a response and that John's web sight says nothing. All I can find on the internet is about John's heart attack in 2012. Has this confirmed ?? 97 is wrong, but unfortunately the great guitarist and partner of Dave Hartley in those videos has passed away. I knew him and know his wife. I don't believe he'd made 60 years old yet. _________________ "The Masher of Touch and Tone"

Yes, we'll all miss John. I'm glad we had a few years together in a band and also doing our regular get togethers and recording some music. He was the same age as me I think, 57.. |

Godspeed John Stannard
I first heard John through David's videos and like many was taken by his tone and playing. A picker and a grinner.
John and David together, with a minus-1 band, put out some heartfelt music.
Glad for the videos.
Condolences to John's family and friends.
On the Tele forum he's Big John.

Today, November 28, 2015 I just now heard that John had passed.
I’m shocked.
John and I exchanged a few emails about his guitar and the Fender Jazzmaster Ultra-Light amp he was using.
There’s more to the story but not now.
I’m in shock.

I agree with many of you in reference to John being a great Lead Guitar Player; I consider him one of the greatest guitar players that I've had the pleasure of knowing; And Dave & John were an excellent team together when recording. Sensational is one word I enjoy placing on their " TALENTS' as Country musicians. John was a very funny man to watch his facial expressions; his silly grins; And you had to know how much he enjoyed playing his TELE. And David worked so well with him. Beautiful guitar harmonies.. Rest In Peace, my friend.
Regards..Bernie

Everyday, I watch David Hartley and John Stennard on YouTube. David was kind enough to post a lot of quality videos on YouTube. John was really a fantastic player. _________________ GFI Ultra SD-10; Nashville 112; Hilton pedal, George L Cables; Pearse bar; Live Stings;Walker seat by Billy Knowles. |

I only discovered Dave & John a couple of months back.
Been letting them play all night while I sleep and loving everything they play.
They are both such fine players, but more important, you can tell from the videos they are great people too.
So sad to now see John is gone.
God bless. _________________ Inlaid Star Guitar 2006 by Mark Giles. SD-10 4+5 in E9th; http://luthiersupply.com/instrument-gallery.html

Andy, glad to note I'm not the only one who a few years ago before getting my first psg used to listen as well during sleep to these guys go at it. Although he's dabbled in many fine guitars, it was Hartley's playing and videos that cinched me on a Sho Bud.
John exemplified once again the power of chicken pickin' on a Tele.

Hi Godfrey,
Not sure why but I sleep better with music playing at low volume.
Sad to think about John having passed away so young.
Guess that's alway up the the management upstairs.
Best wishes,
