I've used it a few times and I really like it. One thing I dislike is there is no screeen. The tuner is the lighted buttons.... Center button being 440 (default). It does not give you the note. Not a big deal, except if you have to change a broken string. I have a Snark Clip-on for an emergency. I have a couple of rigs in place, but really only use one. It's nice having everything in one place. I'm fine with the 4 effects at a time, since I only use 3. I have a Chorus before the tone stack, then delay and reverb after. Direct to the board via XLR for in-ear. 1/4" out to a power cab. |

Thanks Danny, I have a bunch of Peterson tuners so wouldn't use the onboard one in the Kemper anyway ... whats the quality of the effects like ? ... reverb and delay most of the time for me ... and either my Sarno Earth drive, or the Nutra in my Benado :-} .... I think I will go ahead with the Kemper Player. _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9

I’m using the UA Dream 65 and the UA OX stomp with great results. Joe has done the most research on the subject so if he likes the Tonex I’m sure you can’t go wrong.
Nice to have some options that cost less than an amp for a change! |
Hi, I also recently got from uafx the dream and the stompbox. Do you have a picture of how you adjusted them? I am very curious. And do you use a frfr speaker when performing. I hope to hear from you. Thanks. Greetings from the Netherlands. |

Because of the gigs I play, theaters and those kinds of situations, I need a small volume footprint on those stages for the most part. I switched to modeling amps over 2 years ago and used the boss gt1000 core for that and other things. It worked pretty nicely, not perfect. If I play a loud honky tonk gig, I will pull out my walker rig.
For me, it is not the same and I have tried the quad cortex, helix stuff, toyed with the tonex, haven't tried the kemper models yet, but for me, the notes don't quite sustain as long, it's a very subtle thing, not latency, but kind of a feel thing. Overall though, I still can get an emmonsy tone with them. I am currently using a Fractal FM9, now theres a monster! |

Fender Tonemaster Pro.
Fender amps are spot on, easy visual interface, tons of effects, 2 inputs for multi-instrumentalists. So much easier to navigate compared to Kemper.
The Fender FR12 FRFR is also amazing.
The prices have dropped recently.

While it's not my favorite, I've done lots of work playing through an HX Stomp (Helix) using the amp models.
A couple scenarios where I use it: remote recording tracks while on the road, a downtown gig on a small stage where I'm trying to bring as little stuff as possible, and (mostly) for a sync music recording situation where everything needs to be *completely* isolated and we're recording in a home studio.
It's excellent for stuff like that. Very possible to get good steel sounds. Not as good as a good amp, but that's to be expected.
Oh also, I had Greg Leisz play on one of my songs recently. He played through an Iridium, sounded excellent. |

A Kemper is not as "modeler" or "simulator".
The Helix and other similar units are considered modelers. They 'simulate' the amps they are modeling.
A Kemper is an actual profile capture of that specific amp. It is not using modeling technology to achieve the sound. _________________ Tim Harr

Hi Kevin - what are your favourite amp models? I use a Fractal FM3 for guitar, eMando, lap steel, and other instruments in various bands I currently play in, but am just starting to try it with PSG (which, practically, is just because I haven't yet started gigging on PSG). This weekend I've been practicing through a BF Twin Reverb model and it's sounding great, but curious to know what others are using for their core PSG tones.
Thanks! |

Relevant to the discussion here, I just posted an in-depth interview with Joe Rogers covering his work with TONEX and other amp profiling technology. Here's the interview:

Here’s a clip I have that explains all the functions of the knobs on the ToneX. A big help.
