Does anyone know who played steel on Waylon Jennings' "Young Widow Brown"? Doesn't sound like Mooney to me.
Thanks,

Discogs.com lists one version with Bobby Dyson for steel credits.
I didn't know the song or have any knowledge about it or Bobby Dyson, just something I found online. |

A quick internet search turns up that those Waylon recordings are from 1970, recorded with a small group for Armed Forces Radio, but were first released in 2016 with "additional instrumentation" added by producer Robby Turner. Robby played steel with Waylon for many years and produced many of his later records, so it's a pretty good bet that it's Robby playing that great steel.
Bobby Dyson was a prominent studio bass-player here for years with a long list of credits, including a lot of early Waylon. Never knew that he played steel, but who knows.

I just saw Bobby Dyson credited for steel on a page in discogs. The same page id'ed him as a studio bass player so I thought the steel credit was odd.
I thought of Robby, but couldn't find any credits for him on this tune, but you're probably right. |
