How can you tell whether the pickup is original on a 1938 Model B Bakelite Rickenbacker? Is it possible that what looks like original equipment on the outside has been replaced?

Take a small screwdriver and insert it towards the top of the pole pieces. If the screwdriver pulls upward, it's an original. BTW, The pre-war magnets were 1.5" across. The post war magnets were 1.25"
