The euforia of New Guitar Day can only be experienced a few times. Therefore I always celebrate new string day, and polish and shine up the guitar and have a toast of the good stuff, every couple months when I put on new strings. Its that extra sparkle and resonance that only a fresh set of strings can provide. Cheers Everybody ! Its New String Day today !

I did yesterday night, after over 10 days of already knowing that my wound string were dead, flats played into them and starting loose intonation along the them.
It's a bright day today.
As a C6th player, I tend to only change my wound strings... may the plain go black, I don't care. One of Jerry Byrds' "secret" I was given "in secret".

Well, HNSD to you all!
I feel the same way when I change strings on one of my Floyd Rose bridge guitars - they are a Royal PITA to set up but once done, happiness! _________________ Tony

New String Day is sort of special day. Spend some time with guitar.
I like to take the strings off, Clean, Shine and polish the body, Clean and polish metal parts. Check rollers, Clean dust bunnies out of the changer.
About every 3rd string change, Go over pedals and pedal bar, Put a little lube on each pedal, If needed. Check connectors that attach bar to legs. Clean leg studs, And threaded leg holes in body. A rub of bees wax on each leg stud threads. Turn guitar over, Check underneath for loose screws, Brush out cob webs and dust bunnies.
Then put new strings on guitar and start tuning. |

I now use a violist’s trick and put dry graphite on the changer finger’s surface where the string is bent on. They (violinists) use it on their wooden bridge and nut. I BELIEVE to hear less intonation issues, “zingyness”, etc.
i use an extra soft “artist’s” high graphite pencil.
