Hi Carl We at Outwest have been in the Steel business for over 25 years. The price your asking about is a little to low other than used. You must remember that these are machines and every piece has to be made, and used to be built in small shops. Normally not in a assembly line. If Al Brisco is still watching this thread you might want to reach out to him as he had a "Brisco Bud" for i think around that price point (not sure on that). This was his own design.
Used there was the:
Carter Starter, and Carter S-10, Sho-bud Maverick, And lots of used older S-10s on the market. You might be able to stumble into something like those. But there is not much listed up here right now. We keep a close eye on that.
New ...well there is a problem with wait time and because of per unit costs to build a steel they are higher in cost than your suggested price.
Standard set up now a days is either a S-10 or SD-10 with 3 and 5. I will be building a Lacquer one this year and the price point comes in at around $4500.00 CAD.
These guitars are very Time consuming to build and when you factor in the complete cost with the time to build one. there is not a lot of profit to be had. It is more of the love of the instrument.
Thanks
Wayne

You can get good, and you can get cheap. But the combo platter might be another story. Good luck!
