I think it's Billy Mize...the only CA steel player I ever saw playing a cable Fender standing up...

I don't think he his standing up all the way. Hard to tell but looks like tall wooden stool. Also he has right foot on a volume pedal, would be hard to stand up. I used to have a long time friend who has passed (R.I.P.) now but he would know. I think he was living in the Modesto area when he was in Ca. and went to see Billy Mize a lot. My friend was also a great steel player of that day and time. No Pedals but was learning pedals.
He could do more without pedals than most modern day pickers.
Cannot remember what years he was in Ca. but had to be forty's or early fifty's. J.R. Rose

Me too! The old clips from Town Hall Party (and Tex Ritter's Ranch Party -- virtually the same thing) are a gas to watch on YouTube. I remember seeing some of those shows when I was a little kid in the Mojave when my dad worked for the USN at NOTS in China Lake. The first steel guitar I ever saw was either played by Mize, the great Marion Hall, or Buddy Merrill with the Champagne Music Makers (sponsered by the Dodge Boys).

Well they come from near they come from far to hear Marion Hall play the steel guitar...
