Topic: The 507 Blade Humbucking Pickup - Only 3/4 Inch Tall ! |

The 507 is a stainless steel blade humbucker that is electrically and magnetically identical to a popular blade humbucker with a similar sounding name that was originally introduced in the 1970s.
However the 507 is not a clone, I have revised the pickup body design and wiring arrangement to remove the wasted height in the original model and the current reissue model on the market. The changes are to plastic body parts only and do not affect the electrical or magnetic design.
The 507 is 3/4 inch tall including the pathway for the pickup wires, whereas the original/reissue is 7/8 inch tall with another 1/8 inch of height required for the cable. The tall height of the original/reissue will not fit on many steel guitars, especially steels where the changer supports extend into the pickup pocket. There are other steels where the original/reissue barely fits but cannot really be adjusted for the best tone, which due to the powerful ceramic magnet occurs at 1/8 - 3/16 inch clearance. If either of these is the situation on your steel and you like the tone of this style pickup, here is the solution.

Excellent, Scott! A client recently brought me his old steel and a 705. It wouldn't go. I had to shave the plastic baseplate where it was hitting the changer supports down to next to nothing (with his unhappy blessings) and I succeeded but it was not at all an ideal situation.
This pickup would likely have made the difference. Glad to have the option in the future! |

Great news!
I have 705s on both of my guitars and in both cases they are bottomed out and are still higher than I would like them to be.

Yes Lee,
I also have (2) 705's and they are both bottomed out. I would like to get an addition 1/16" string separation, but it "ain't" going to happen.
Might have to consider the 507. |

Johnny, I can stretch this for 12 string easily, I have done this for all my other models, when I introduce a new 10 string model usually there is a request for the 12 string version shortly thereafter.

I can do the quick change MSA mount, I offer that on my other models, and there is no dimensional issue with doing it for the 507, either 10 or 12 string. There is a cost adder of course.
