Don't laugh, it actually works really well. Plenty of leg room, and the cajon/stool fits underneath. Mesh bag on the side good for miscellaneous stuff.
The plywood on top is just plopped down there (no pun intended). The rubbery grips on the frame keep it in place well enough. The thing only weighs 4 lbs, so no grunting and groaning if you have to move it around.
And there's room for 2...well, just barely. (I should have left another 1/2" on that plywood)

It would also be a great amp stand with a board across the lower braces. With heavier wheels, it would work for transporting a heavier amp from the parking lot for an instant setup or outside gig. If you're a geezer, it would be triple duty to get yourself from the parking lot with your amp. _________________ 1976 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics 427 pickup, 1975 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics X-12 pickup, Revelation preamp, Carbon Copy Delay and Hall Of Fame Reverb, Crown XLS 1002, 2- 15" Eminence Wheelhouse speakers, ShoBud Pedal, Effects Pedals. 1949 Epiphone D-8. |

Joe, that's outstanding! You could set up like a piano bar and schmooze the audience, take requests and so on. |

Oh, I'm looking at it backwards. Nevermind. |

Dennis, it's a little wobbly as is. Not terrible, but when I put a lot of vibrato on the steel the stand will move side to side a little. I like your idea of putting a board on the lower arms. Have been wondering what I can do to stabilize it a little more, and I think just a 1" x 1" screwed onto those lower arms would help. |

I'd be a little afraid that people might also assume I drive a Yugo. |

Well, the side to side wobble on this setup, plus the inability to raise it to standing height, plus the large footprint in my small space has led me to the point of capitulation. I negotiated a discounted price on an Asher stand and should get it next week. The toilet frame will either become an amp stand, keyboard stand, or be donated. I hope my failed experiment keeps others from following suit. |

I might, if I hadn't stocked up on five of these before Mark retired:

Jack, which is more stable - the three-legged kind or the four-legged kind?
The setup for two steels is clever. I gather that was only offered prior to Asher taking over production. |

Joseph, four legs are more stable, but I often use only three. The little bit of wobble doesn't seem to hinder me, and may indeed help enhance my vibrato!
I had Mark custom built the double brackets to my specs. I consider them a significant enhancement to the standard Deluxe34 stands. I had once considered a triple, but came to the conclusion that either my arms were too short, or my belly was too big.

I'm pleased to report 100% satisfaction with the Asher stand. Expensive, yes, but so worth it. I pretty much always play ("regular") guitar sitting down, but I'm really enjoying standing to play the steel. |

Save it, maybe in a decade or so you will use it for the purpose it was originally intended? _________________ Currently own, 6 Groner-tone lap steels, one 1953 Alamo Lap steel, Roland Cube, Fender Champion 40 |
