Recently there was discussion of reconditioning a steel bar.

My question is what are the symptoms of a worn out bar?

Thx

When the plating has rubbed off.

When there are obvious nicks and scratches (when you have to rotate the bar to get a good sound).

IMO the test of a good finish on a bar is to rub it across the high string... opposite of glissando... you'll feel noise and catching. BJS bars have no peer here... really too heavy for me, I use Paloma Stone or Rocky Mts. agate.
