I am in the market for my first PSG. I've opted to not buy a couple of student models available regionally as I'm told I'd outgrow their limitations pretty quickly. I have been in contact with the seller of a Derby SD10 3X5. To quote the ad directly "Excellent condition single 10 string pedal steel guitar 3x5 BL705 MICRO TUNING at endplate". Most of this nomenclature is Greek to me, but in reading articles about Derby on the forum it seems like it is a fine-crafted instrument and the gentleman selling with most definitely knows his stuff and is down-sizing his inventory. One comment in the forum said an individual would love to hear one with a 705 pickup on it, again not sure what the difference is but I'm assuming 705 is a quality upgrade. Seller also has a Derby 12 String for sale and claims there were only 2 made (PM and I will share his number). Anyway, he is asking $3,000 for this 10 string and I want to be respectful of his ask while at the same time not get taken advantage of as it's my first PSG purchase. Thank you for any advice!

You won't be disappointed with the Derby, they're fine guitars. I bought one from a friend last year and after I started gigging with it, my bandmates all remarked on the great tone. So it's a great instrument that you shouldn't outgrow, unless you want to expand into C6. Your real concern seems to be the price, right?
If you do a search in the "For Sale: Steel Guitars" section of the forum, you'll find that recent asking prices for SD10 Derby's range from $2850-$3100. Prices on used steels keep going up every year. Chances are the seller could let it go for less without losing money, but is asking what the market will bear. _________________ 1980 MSA Vintage XL S-10, 1975 Session 400
