There’s a Sho-Bud Maverick listed on Reverb.com asking $650. It looks well played and has been stripped for parts – no pedals on the pedal rack, pedal rods, or pull rods, though the tear drop knee lever, and some of the undercarriage bell crank mechanism appear to have survived the purge intact.

Not a beauty queen, and most likely an organ donor – but it’s one of the good ones: figured maple, natural lacquer finish, Gumby headstock, raised neck—and it even has the roller nut. The flat (not dust-catcher) fretboard suggests it’s an early one. Appears to have the original Sho-Bud pickup and changer. The cabinet looks intact—the photos don’t show any cracks or other issues—just screw holes where parts used to live. Even has the case which looks pretty sound.

With nice examples selling in the mid teens, this could be a decent restoration project, or leave it “as is” for a great 10-string non-pedal console that will give somebody the sweet Sho-Bud sound for short dollars. Just sayin’ …

Herb Steiner does okay with a no-pedal Maverick:

Thanks for posting the link, Brad. By the way, I have no personal stake in this listing – I just thought it might be of interest to forum members.

That said, I did look at the seller’s feedback and past sales, and found it curious that the description for this Maverick sounded a bit amateurish, as if written by someone who doesn’t know much about steel guitars, particularly the comment “Guitar strings look OK. Needs to be tuned.” In fact, the seller’s past recorded sales show he has moved many steel guitars, including quite a few Mavericks as well as higher end models, and he’s very conversant about them in those listings.

The listing also emphasizes (twice)the need to look at the photos for condition—sort of a red flag. I don’t know enough about the mechanics to conclude whether there is a dealbreaker there. This might be a money pit for someone wishing to restore this as a PSG. Thinking of it as a non-pedal guitar though seems pretty safe. But I would still recommend contacting the seller and asking a few pointed questions. It’s been listed for over a week and he has now lowered the price to $625. May be a great non-pedal console deal, but caveat emptor!

It is sold.

It had the rare Maverick knee lever but all of the coat hanger wire rods & pedals were missing.
