I have a friend who is left handed and is considering learning to play steel guitar.
If someone out there has a good used left handed steel for sale, please contact me at bhr6276@yahoo.com. |

He should do what Lloyd Green did; as Lloyd is Left Handed in EVERY way, in life; but plays the pedal steel Right handed; as he claims the Bar hand is the most important hand when playing and that is indeed his Left hand when playing Right. He never thought twice about playing a left handed pedal steel.

I'm fairly strongly left-handed,but had no problem with playing six-string and steel right-handed, so if Bobby's friend is new to playing, it might be worthwhile considering going righty on steel.
OTOH if he already plays a string instrument LH, it would get confusing to try steel RH.
EDIT: while typing the above I realized I've never seen or heard of a left-handed piano or other keyboard. Do they even exist? |

I'm no Lloyd Green but, I am left handed but play steel right handed. Here's the odd thing, before I started playing steel, I played guitar left handed with it strung left handed. I never had a problem with it. Getting string grips on steel with the right hand to me is simular to making chord grips with the right hand on guitar played lefty.
I will say this.. I bat right handed..throw a ball right handed..use a hammer left handed, but I would throw it right. I eat left and write left.
I have played with musicians that are lefty but play several instruments right handed.
I would strongly recommend that anyone left handed to consider starting right handed on steel, being lefty is not a handicap. _________________ SHO-BUD SUPER PRO D10(8+10)

Glen Campbell spoke about how learning guitar right handed was one of the best decisions he ever made.

If thats true, then the 90% of all right handed players need to switch bar hands...and pedal steels need to be built the other way.
But we know guitars are made the correct way for 90% of the population. Something to think about. |
