Has anyone tried either TV Jones, or Gretsch HS, filtertrons in a lap steel.
I have a spare set of Gretsch HS Filtertrons taken out of a Gretsch Jet years ago.
They are fabulous guitar pups sounding very similar to TV Jones Classics.
You need 500k pots for them to sound optimal - they're super versatile mid output pups in guitars.
Has anyone tried these or similar Filtertons in lap steel and ... if so - what's your report please _________________ check out my recordings at https://www.soundclick.com/homoerectusaus |

Most Lap steels have a wider string spacing than filtertrons will allow.. super Trom’s with the dual blades might work in certain scenarios _________________ Santo Fan Club - from the island of Coney to the sands of Rockaway

yeah good call Miles - I'll fish out my Gretsch HS pups and see how they match up on my new Asher Electro Hawaiian lap steel _________________ check out my recordings at https://www.soundclick.com/homoerectusaus |

Cool. Let me know how it works out, that surf green Gretsch lap steel has my eye but I don’t like the pickup _________________ Santo Fan Club - from the island of Coney to the sands of Rockaway

The first pedal steel guitar that Shot Jackson made from scratch (as opposed to non-pedal conversions) was when, according to conversations with Don Davis himself, SJ joined Don Davis (DA) and Hank Garland (LAND) to make the DALAND pedal steels. They made and sold ten guitars in six weeks around August 1954. The pickups were made by Ray Butts and are pre-Filtertron eight string Filtertrons. They are not pole piece pickups, but instead have individual coils wrapped around two bar magnets. They are humbuckers from the Summer of 1954. They are kind of thin sounding, but the coils are tall and skinny. The pickups peek out of an opening in the cast aluminum pickup surround that is 1 inch by 3 9/16ths inches.

Gretsch filtertrons are a perfect fit in my Asher.
The Gretsch made Lap Steels don't suit me at all.
They have short scale length and I prefer humbucker pups _________________ check out my recordings at https://www.soundclick.com/homoerectusaus |
