Producer Brian Ahern let Hank use a Cordovox on some Emmylou songs in the 70`s. To schlep an old Cordovox around may be a challenge doing gigs, and I don`t know whether Hank De Vito himself did that while touring with Harris. But the chorus/phaser sound is admittedly nice, so I wonder whether anybody knows of a pedal that may approximate the Cordovox sound?
I have read about rotary/Leslie pedals, and Hughes & Kettner Rotosphere is often mentioned. Would that one be a candidate?
I just love De Vito`s sound from his Hot Band days! _________________ Steinar Schrøder |

Strymon Lex is outstanding for organ sounds, but I still somehow cannot achieve that Cordovox sound of De Vito on Emmylou`s records. Don`t know what`s missing, but then again, Ahern produced miracles in his Electron studio. _________________ Steinar Schrøder |

Cordovoxes were single-rotor speakers. That's a different sound from the Leslies commonly used with Hammond organs. You need a pedal that emulates a model 16 or 18 or Fender Vibratone specifically. |

The Fender Vibratone? Ok, would the TC Vibraclone pedal do a fair approximation, - in as far as you`ve had the opportunity to try it? _________________ Steinar Schrøder |

Any song examples where he used that effect with Emmylou? Can't remember any that weren't just straight steel. |

I know for a fact Hank used the Roland Space chorus quite a bit. |

Jack, - that`s interesting. Was he able to reproduce some of that Cordovox sound with the Space Echo? I know that unit produces a nice chorus effect.
To drag a Cordovox along on tours seems impractical unless you`ve got a stage crew, so I`ve been wondering what Hank did on the road.
Did he use any other effects? _________________ Steinar Schrøder |

Steiner,
I’m no expert, but the only two effects I’ve ever seen Hank use during his Hot Band tenure was the Roland and a Boss Tone. |

I’ve never heard of Cordovox until now, but I just listened to a gorgeous version of Making Believe on YouTube just to see what you’re talking about. The effect Hank DeVito had on his steel definitely sounds more like a chorus rather than a rotary speaker, but it doesn’t get in the way of his flawless playing. Don’t we all miss that group… |
