Wow, what a nice guy!
I first met Ron on a very cold below zero night in Hutchinson Kansas at the Palamino Club.
He was filling in on some shows for Lynn Owsley with the great Ernest Tubb.
I sat a mere 3 feet from Ron's spot on stage and after he broke a string and it flew onto my table we started up a conversation and friendship that lasted until this day.
He was playing a new Marrs D-10 and got me in touch with Duane to purchase my first three Marrs Guitars.
We would occasionally run into each other backstage at the Opry and laugh about how cold it was that night lol
His sense of humor and professional playing ability will live on...

Ron was a super guy. When I went with Bobby Bowman to play the Superjam we spent a lot of time with Ron and his wife! They made us all feel welcome. He'll be missed for sure! |

Ron was known as Mr smooth for a reason. He was that and more. Great sense of humor and pleasant to talk with. Ron was definitely a patriot and long before the trend was used to get applause. I was lucky enough to enjoy many of Ron's excellent performances. Rip Ron Elliott. |

His approach to the E9th neck caught my attention and my appreciation years ago. He tended to play his leads and low harmony notes on the heavier strings and with more triads. His approach was slightly outside the normal box and created such a smooth full sound. He was also a great guy to talk to and humorous. Yes, very patriotic at the steel shows. I've drifted away from his playing lately and need to get back to it. He was such an inspiration. Another great stylist pioneer is gone. A great steel convention is happening that we can't attend at the moment. _________________ 1976 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics 427 pickup, 1975 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics X-12 pickup, Revelation preamp, Carbon Copy Delay and Hall Of Fame Reverb, Crown XLS 1002, 2- 15" Eminence Wheelhouse speakers, ShoBud Pedal, Effects Pedals. 1949 Epiphone D-8. |

Ron Elliott was featured on a lot of the steel guitar shows I played over the years, and he was a great steel player and a great friend. I remember when he played in Saluda one time, playing a beautiful version of "America The Beautiful" on pedal steel, and he played it with great feeling! I enjoyed hearing him tell stories about how he worked at Sho-Bud and the artists he played for. |

I will miss my Brother Ron Elliot greatly. He was the perfect host when I'd visit N'ville and hang with my peeps up there. Ron and Leslie were always full of warmth and generosity. Rest well with Leslie, my Brother. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |
