It doesn't seem to me that Dean Dillon had any problems with Stapleton’s version. I’m sure he didn’t mind getting those additional royalty checks, either. |
Yeah Dave I understand, and I am glad Dean is fine with it changing from the way he and Linda wrote it; and getting more pay from it; that's good for them; but I still think its Disrespectful to the aspects of the MUSIC side of it.
Glenn NAILED It with the Etta James song cut in 1968; Chris should of respectfully Cut that song from Etta; as it is exactly what he did with Tennessee Whiskey(same blues progression and bluesy singing.

Seems to me, if the Boss-man (band leader) calls Tennessee Whiskey, Stapleton version… somebody needs to count it off and somebody needs to kick it.
Like it or not, that’s his decision… and I won’t try to talk him into changing it, just for me. No disrespect intended.
I really dig both versions, for completely different reasons.

Man if you don’t like the Stapleton’s version of this tune you need to go see a Neurologist and get yo’ head checked son!!! It’s an instant classic. Ain’t nobody gonna remember the Jones version. _________________ LDG Sho Bud '73, Mullen Disco, Milkman

Bill Monroe liked Elvis Presley's version of Blue Moon Of Kentucky as well because it filled his pockets. I'm sure privately he hated it. _________________ I don't know much but what I know I know very well.

After the Elvis recording Monroe would often start the tune at the original, recorded tempo and then.... bounced it by kicking the tempo up to Elvis's tempo (and beyond).
The crowds went wild and Monroe continued with this rendition for the balance of his lifetime.
So no, he didn't hate it at all.
