Saw a country bar with a real Edinburgh country band in
S1 E4 of Rebus ‘Mortal Causes’. 2004
Ian Rankins books brought to life.
Last of the John Hanna first season.
So real band and a real PSG player.
But who was playing? Not listed anywhere.
A few good steel licks could be heard.
So solid player. But who?? _________________ DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.

Hi David , the Band was the Radio Sweethearts, and it is me playing( my old ShoBud S10. We had a cd out in the States, New Memories, on St Roc Records, New Orleans. The cd did quite well in the Indie charts, it was produced by the renowned producer Kim Fowley, our second album Lonesome Blue was Co produced by Alex Chilton of Box Top fame.
Believe I met you once at the Irish Steel Guitar Show. _________________ MSA Millenium SD10, GK MB200, Sica 12inch cab, Joyo American Sound Pedal/ Jay Ganz Straight Ahead amp, Telonics 15inch in Peavey cab, Digitech RP150, Peterson tuner.Hilton volume pedal.Scott Dixon seat and guitar flight case. |

Hi Malcom
1 ) I knew I’d get the answer here
2 ) I was pretty sure I’d have met the ‘Steelie’
at Newbury or Drogheda
Glad I was proved right!
I am a big Ian Rankin fan and read most of the 12+ Rebus books.
But had somehow missed thinking about this band when I first saw the series.
I tried to get my Mrs. interested in this show since she liked John Hanna in
4 Weddings and a Funeral last week.
She’s watched a few now.
You guys gave legitimacy to that fake club.
Perfect music for the look, Skynyrd or better.
At least there was no line dancing scene!
They did put in some good steel licks,
so you were were properly presented.
Drogheda was a fun time, great music and great craik!
Newbury was also cool. Loved hearing so many great
UK / Ire Steelies. One of my better memories. _________________ DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.

Thanks David, pretty sure I remember you trying a Carter at the Newbury show, it was the only time Carter had a stand there, both John and Anne where there, and there was a line waiting to try them.
Think the later version of Rebus, with Ken Stott was better than the John Hannah one. _________________ MSA Millenium SD10, GK MB200, Sica 12inch cab, Joyo American Sound Pedal/ Jay Ganz Straight Ahead amp, Telonics 15inch in Peavey cab, Digitech RP150, Peterson tuner.Hilton volume pedal.Scott Dixon seat and guitar flight case. |

Hanna thought so too, that’s why he quit the show.
He originally was Producer, but the network thumbed down his original Rebus actor, and Hanna was told to step in, but never felt right in the roll. He walked after season one.
PS yes I was at the Carter Stand for sure.
I had hoped to play bass for Doug Jernigan’s jazz set,
and he was cool with it. Doug said come on, he’d heard me play at ISGC and knew I can sight read bebop and swing it etc no problems. But festival staff didn’t know me, and left house band guy up there.
At the bar jam set they heard me swing and apologized for yanking me off as we stepped to the stage. C’est la vie! _________________ DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.
