| I see quite a few posts with people talking about mapping the neck and how helpful it is. What are you doing? Plotting each note or chord or both. I seem to need a lot of help so.... Thanks, John |

I use this tool quite a bit https://www.studybass.com/tools/chord-scale-note-printer/
There are others, but this one has proven most useful to me. Mike Neer posted about blank 8 string fretboard sheets that allow you to fill in your own chords-scales etc. A great investment, I plan on getting those. I think working out basic cadences V-I, ii-V-I etc. and some useful pockets is what I take that to mean. It is quite a task as every player is expected to be Captain James Cook! A lot of this has been done for C6, but doing it yourself is the best way to actually learn it.
The subject of pockets is another confusing one that I am still trying to figure out exactly what those are. |

I have not seen anything that beats this free app for steel guitar players. There are set tunings, or you can customise them as you like, and choose scales, notes or chords. Huge thanks to the creators.

| The Studybass fretboard tool may seem a little tricky and on some search engines doesn't seem to work at all. I use the lute tuning for 8 string . It seems to do a few things the others don't. It will do triads and 4 note chords as well as a long list of scales modes etc. The really cool feature is it will overlay a scale over a chord so you can see the relationship. |
