Only heard them online and they sound right. You can't go wrong with the sound coming out of a Strymon box, of any version.
Are you sold on the digital type of sound versus analog delay? I think the warmer analog sound works better for steel guitar (and the type of music typically played on it). You might check out this new analog delay emulation from Strymon: The Brig is smaller and cheaper than some of their other effects and it's technically digital, but it's supposed to sound like an old bucket brigade analog unit. If I didn't already have a Strymon El Capistan delay, I would look very seriously at the Brig. For steel, I like the delayed signal on the cleaner side (but not pristine, like digital delay), so I would crank off the 'mod' knob on that unit and roll on:

have a look at the mythos oracle delay pedal too. very cool take on the analog bucket brigade delay pedal. i love the simplicity of it.

| I was trying reverb and delay pedals at a music store the other day, and I think it was a DIG I tried (not the BRIG). It was OK. I ended up being most impressed with the Empress Reverb. And I was very very impressed. They also have a delay in the same format that I haven't seen in person yet. If I were in the market for a delay that's what I'd try. |

I just got a Dig v2. I have no understanding of how or why one delay might 'sit in the mix' better than another -- in my case I'm not talking about recording.....just talking about integrating with my over-all sound. The Dig does. One of the things I want available to me even though I'm not really an ambience guy is a set of features that can get me there and the Dig, as a double delay with fractional repeats, can get me there. Light & heavy modulation are switchable.
It's a good sounding unit. |
