Thanks for listening, Chris and Guy! Chris, I can't tell you how many blind alleys I've gone down in search of the "golden key" to vibrato. My vibrato is at its best when I first start playing my lap steel - like the first 30 minutes; then, the muscles in my left hand begin to tighten up and the vibrato becomes more difficult. So, I know the problem must stem from putting too much pressure on the bar, else my hand wouldn't tire so quickly. But this is an "easier said than done" fix because reducing tension in my left hand means reducing it in my right hand as well by default. Over time, I've tried to make these compensations, but in "record mode" a lot of my tool bag seems to fly out the window. So, I'm gonna lie and say that I was chasing after some sort of Miles Davis effect on this one  |
