I purchased a Rogue 6 string lap steel and the problem I'm having is that the body of the instrument is so thick all around that my regular guitar tuners will not clamp onto the body so that Im able to tune it. I really dont care for stand along tuners, but prefer one that clips onto the instrument.
Any Suggestions of one that wont cost an arm and a leg.

You could try clipping your tuner to a tuning peg, or even one of the knobs. I’ve had both work for me. I also prefer those mini tuners that can just stay put, but ya, those Rogues are pretty thick.

If it is only a beater guitar, you could screw and glue a piece of wood to the body of the guitar. Something big enough to clip a tuner to.
Or buy something like Korg's PitchJack: https://www.korg.com/us/products/tuners/pitchjack/
One of them is chromatic.
Edit: For my Rogue, I use a 1/4 patch cord and my old chromatic korg tuner. But mine is just a practice instrument. |

Just take the clip off and blu-tac it to the headstock...works for me...

I also prefer clip-on tuners, such as the Fishman FT2.
It clips to the headstock of most instruments. On my Studio Deluxe (basically a three-legged Champ) -- which also has a super-thick headstock -- I merely clip it to a tuner button/shaft when tuning. |

UPS just dropped off my new Rogue yeaterday, and I was confronted with the same problem. I clipped the Snark to the plugged in cord jack, and it works fine.
I can, of course, use the Peterson Strobo plus that my MSA is plugged into, or my good old Boss TU-12, but for this guitar a clip-on seems more useful.
