I'm adding a 6 string Dobro/lap steel to my SD10 Mullen RP. I've got a guy to make the body, 1/2" thick, to place onto where the pad currently is. I am looking for a headstock and nut to complete the guitar, preferably a nice polished metal unit similar to the E9 headstock.

Here's some photos of what I'm looking for.

HI Aaron do you have any drawings or dementions of what you need?

Thanks Barry. My estimate is about 3 inches wide at the nut, 3.5 inches long, and 0.25 inch thick. There's room for it to be longer than 3.5 inches but I think that's the minimum length to fit 6 tuners.

Georgeboards still sells templates but I don't know the exact specs. I would like something like this out of polished metal. Here's a photo.

Hello from GeorgeBoards Steel Guitars for the Stars.

I've talked to and fully understand that Aaron is just trying to get an electric dobro thing happening for his pedal steel.

What he does not yet realize is that all of my designs are both Trademarked™ and copyrighted.

If any of the machinists want to create a standalone custom design. "Right On Power to the People" go for it.

If someone tries to make exacting copies of my design work, remember it would be Infringement and a big No No.

The plexi router template we sell - his woodworker person could pop out that head stock from wood in less that an hour with materials from Home Centers.

Thanks for the reply Barry. George is correct I am looking to build a straight 6 neck lap steel/Dobro. As of this afternoon I believe my problem here is solved, I found an existing headstock that can be modified.

I misspoke about the body thickness, it's going to be based on the headstock and nut, I think we have wiggle room for up to 3/4".

Thanks for your input. And I apologize for misunderstanding what George's templates can/can not be used for. I was not aware that the templates cannot be used to reproduce another metal headstock. However, I won't be using any of George's information for my build, so I don't think there's anything more to say about that.

If you can get a used 10 or 12 string key head with proper string spacing. Figure back 3 strings on each side from top, To make 6 key head. Cut the key head off, And attach a solid bar of aluminum to the key head with screws or heli-arc weld, If a slot was cut in top of the bar, You could use a bone nut like a dobro.

Be sure to figure any change at the key head in setting the scale length of the guitar.

Good luck making your dream a reality.

what about and older MSA 2 piece head stock would that work. I have a 12 string set here that could be modified to suit your purposes. Also if you wish Barry Coker is great at this stuff (not speaking for Barry) But I'm sure he could modify it for you. unless of coarse you wish to. You could by Grover 6 string tuners anywhere. Just trying to help
thanks
