It seems to me like with all the electronics and mechanical robots that can do anything to bringing you a beer to doing back flips, some engineer could devise a simple pulling system for steel guitar that would still give you the feel and smoothness of the old 70 year old mechanical steel. There is all kinds of actuators now like stepper actuators, helical screw and even less likely solenoid to adjust to your personal feel. Anyway just a thought.

I guess I missed those earlier ideas, but what they talking about is redesigning the steel guitar and that seems way too complicated. What I'm thinking is using the same changer and pull rods, but have the actuator on the bell cranks. Get rid of all the pedal rods....and cabinet drop Confused Have just a little electrical plug. Anyway just a thought.

"Help! All my presets have disappeared!"

I've had so many problems with newer automotive digital-based gliches that I'd go bonkers if I had to worry about that stuff in a guitar or amp. I can't tell you how many times members have put up posts here begging for someone to help them reprogram their tuner or digital amp whatsis (I know it's in the hundreds, or maybe even in the thousands). I don't know about you, but a digital guitar is something I just wouldn't risk playing with. An amp? Maybe, you can always borrow an amp somewhere, but similarly-playable pedal steels are about as scarce as Bigfoot in The Alamo.

Program lost? Backup battery failed? Touch-sensitive screen cracked or delaminated? Mouse chewed up the wires in the pedalboard harness? The C-major is coming out Cm/maj9add6add11(b13)(+11)/E?
(IOW, it just plain ain't working right.)

No thanks. Muttering

Donny has it pegged. In the automobile industry and commercial market including farm equipment the computer controls and modules are the problem child. Wires and harness connections too. I was glad to retire in 2009 from GM and Chrysler dealerships as a technician and service consultant. It's only gotten worse since.
