On what I think is a 1957 T8 Stringmaster.

Lift up one of the bridge covers. It would be stamped under there.

It won't tell you much though, the case and decal might help but sometimes there are dates penciled in under the tuning pans. |

They do run in roughly chronological order. It's just that Fender's records are long lost.
Basil Henriques started a thread about the Stringmaster timeline and if everyone posted their serial numbers on guitars with a known neck date, it would make it easier to use serial numbers as another tool to date guitars.
FWIW, I have noticed that every guitar I have seen with a dash preceding the number (such as the ones posted in this thread) have been from 1957. This also applies to Teles and Strats etc. but I have no idea why that would be.
Basil's thread is here:

That's where the serial numbers are found on the Mark 2 Stringmasters.
Where are the serial numbers on the Mark 1 26" Stringmasters?
Thanks! _________________ Tony

The build date was penciled in under the far tuning pan of my '56 T8, if that is what you are after. Yours looks to be in very nice condition! |

Thanks! It's basically in the same place as the Mk2 - on the plate where the Vol & Tone knobs are.
I have some Mk1 plates (switches) but none for Vol & Tone. _________________ Tony
